Switzerland and the Holocaust

Between 4 and 11 February 2018, the Mémorial de la Shoah in France organizes a series of events (conference, movies, testimonies) on Switzerland and the Holocaust, with the support of the Swiss Chairmanship of the IHRA.

The conference is mainly dedicated to new research on Jewish refugees fleeing to the various Swiss borders (France, Italy and the Third Reich) during the war, as well as to Holocaust memorials (about 50) in Switzerland. Among other, during a conference Ruth Fivaz-Silbermann presented the results of her recent PhD on the French border crossings and claimed that the number of Jewish refugees that were turned back during the war is lower than estimated by the Bergier Commission and others. In addition, lectures on the Swiss Red Cross, Children’s Relief in France, the silence of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the challenges of Holocaust education were given a broader audience. More than 100 people attended the conference.
