On 2 August, Roma and Sinti Genocide Remembrance Day was commemorated in Croatia.
The commemoration ceremony was held at the Roma cemetery in the village of Uštica, in memory of the Roma killed in the Jasenovac Concentration Camp. 16,173 victims are known by name.
The commemoration was organized by the Association of Roma in the Republic of Croatia „Kali Sara“¸ with the support of the Council for National Minorities, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, the Jasenovac Memorial, City of Novska, and Jasenovac Municipality. It was held with the participation of Roma representatives, representatives of the Croatian Parliament and Government, diplomatic corps, delegations of the City of Zagreb, religious communities and non-governmental organizations. Participants remembered the fate of Roma in Croatia during the Second Wolrd War, and emphasized the importance of multiculturalism and the integration of Roma in Croatian society.
