Holocaust Memorial Days: Visit to Moldova

Months of correspondence and negotiations culminated in a high‐level official visit by a joint IHRA‐OSCE/ODIHR delegation to Moldova, January 26‐29, 2014. The delegation consisted of IHRA Steering Committee Chair Richelle Budd Caplan; OSCE/ODIHR Adviser on Combating Antisemitism Anne Giebel; Floriane Hohenberg, Head of the Tolerance and Non‐Discrimination Department (OSCE/ODIHR); Olga Sokhatska, Intern, (OSCE/ODIHR); Dr. Werner Dreier of the Austrian Delegation to IHRA; and IHRA Executive Secretary Dr. Kathrin Meyer. The purpose of the visit was to maximize national Holocaust Memorial Days as a timely chance to:

  •  interact with civil society
  • meet diplomats and policymakers
  • further Holocaust awareness on the national and local levels
  • learn more about ongoing remembrance activities and related challenges in Moldova
  • jointly reach out to this non‐IHRA country/OSCE participating State to raise awareness about the benefits of connecting local remembrance efforts to the ongoing international cooperation on these issues
