Omer Bartov is Professor of European History at Brown University. His research on the German Wehrmacht, industrial killing, and modern identity have made him a leading authority on the subject of the Holocaust and genocidal behavior. Focusing on the Holocaust in Eastern Galicia more recently, Omer Bartov studied interethnic relations and communal contexts in which killers and killed often knew each other, as well as today’s complete omission of Jewish history and the Holocaust in Western Ukraine’s local memory. His numerous books include “Erased. Vanishing Traces of Jewish Galicia in present-day Ukraine” (2007), “Shatterzone of Empires” (2013, co-edited with Eric D. Weitz) and a study of the town of Buczacz (forthcoming).
