Our Annual HMD Service will be held in conjunction with Belsize Square Synagogue via Zoom. The theme for 2021 is ‘Be the light in the darkness’.
Bart van Es, author of the Costa Book of the Year 2018 The Cut Out Girl, will tell us about his grandparents who were part of the resistance in the Netherlands, helping their Jewish neighbours.
Survivor Steven Frank will be conversation with his granddaughter Maggie who accompanied her opa to Amsterdam, Terezin and Auschwitz for a BBC Newsround documentary which won the pair a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) award in the category of best Children’s factual programme. Dr Eve Willman, who came to England on the Kindertransport, will be in conversation with her great-niece Gaby.
Dr Bea Lewkowicz will present an extract from the Refugee Voices testimony of Selma Van De Perre, whose book My Name is Selma was published recently.
The service will be conducted by Rabbi Stuart Altshuler, accompanied by Cantor Dr Paul Heller.
