Online theatre evening and studio discussion with actress Bettina Buchholz, director Johannes Neuhauser and theologian Helmut Außerwöger on the letters of the Dutch Jewess Etty Hillesum.
Etty Hillesum's letters, some of which were smuggled secretly out of the Westerbork transit camp, are a unique literary document from the Holocaust.
The Dutch Jewess Etty Hillesum went voluntarily to the overcrowded Westerbork camp to assist her compatriots as a helper and social worker. In her luggage were the Jewish Talmud, the Bible with the Old and New Testaments and the Koran, the holy book of Islam.
It was not until many years after her murder in Auschwitz that Etty's letters appeared in the Netherlands and the USA. More than two million books were printed. The German-language premiere can be seen here.
