EHRI-ERIC joins IHRA as Permanent International Partner
The European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI-ERIC) has officially joined the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) as a Permanent International Partner, marking an important step forward in both organizations’ shared mission to preserve, protect, and make accessible Holocaust-related archival materials worldwide.
In a time of growing misinformation and Holocaust distortion, preserving and opening Holocaust-related records is a safeguard against forgetting and distorting the past. Archives help us reconstruct lives, understand complicity, and foster remembrance, ensuring that societies learn from the past.
Michaela Küchler, IHRA Secretary General, says:
“This partnership brings together the IHRA’s international network of experts and political representatives with EHRI’s cutting-edge scholarly and technological expertise. Together, we can make Holocaust archives more visible, more accessible, and more widely used by researchers, educators, policymakers, journalists, jurists, genealogists, and the broader public. Our combined efforts will not only safeguard memory but will also make it possible for future generations to engage with the truth.”
Previous successful collaboration between the IHRA and EHRI-ERIC has led to projects like the Archival Access project, an IHRA initiative supported by EHRI’s services and tools. EHRI has also long supported the IHRA #ProtectTheFacts campaign which seeks to address Holocaust distortion.
Reto Speck, Director of EHRI-ERIC, says:
“It is a great honor for EHRI-ERIC to join the IHRA family. Building relationships among international organizations dedicated to Holocaust research, documentation, and commemoration is particularly important in the current climate. With ever-increasing levels of Holocaust distortion, xenophobia, antisemitism and other forms of hate, we must remember the lessons of the Holocaust and defend the values of democracy, tolerance, and the dignity of every individual. I would like to particularly thank my colleagues at Yad Vashem who have worked tirelessly to bring EHRI and the IHRA even closer.”
The EHRI-ERIC joins IHRA’s eight existing Permanent International Partner organizations, including the United Nations, UNESCO, and the European Commission.
EHRI-ERIC is a European research infrastructure launched in January 2025 that brings together major archives and research institutions in ten member countries. It enables online and in-person access to Holocaust sources, and develops innovative digital tools and training for researchers, archivists, educators, and the public. EHRI-ERIC supports archives in preserving and integrating their collections, helping to overcome fragmentation and make knowledge accessible worldwide.
The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) unites governments and experts to strengthen, advance and promote Holocaust education, remembrance, and research worldwide and uphold the commitments of the 2000 Stockholm Declaration and the 2020 IHRA Ministerial Declaration.
