The IHRA condemns the inaccurate leak of information from a discussion on the former Jasenovac concentration camp. In partnership with the IHRA, Croatia has made progress in addressing concerns about the memorial at Jasenovac.

This is a very delicate matter, which also speaks to contemporary relations between Croatia and Serbia. These negotiations require mutual respect and confidence. Today’s reports in the Serbian press are inaccurate and put words in the mouth of the Croatian representative. This puts at risk all progress made on this difficult issue.

The IHRA has been let down by whoever leaked this information. This person was not acting in ways that help the world understand the history of Jasenovac. We apologize to the Head of the Croatian delegation for the unjust treatment she has received.

Ultimately, this issue must be resolved by Croatia and Serbia together. Due to the behavior of some of the representatives of Serbia to the IHRA, this task has now become more difficult.
