On 22 April 1945, as the forces of Josip Tito’s Partisan Resistance Movement approached the Jasenovac concentration camp, hundreds of prisoners held there rose up against the Ustaša camp guards and risked everything to escape. Dozens were able to flee successfully, but the vast majority were killed. In their honor, the Center for the Promotion of Tolerance and Holocaust Remembrance will hold a seminar on how the Holocaust and suffering are dealt with in cultural and creative media.
The seminar, to be held via Zoom on 27 April 2022 in Croatian, marks the second in a series of educational seminars entitled “Anti-Semitism, the Holocaust and Suffering: Past in the Present.” The series encourages educationally-sound techniques in the teaching of the Holocaust and works against the distortion of this history in a variety of fields, including in schools and universities, the cultural sector, and the media.
The upcoming seminar will provide insight into the achievements, results, successes and limitations of dealing with the Holocaust and suffering in European and Croatian film, theater, literature, music and fine art.

A documentary screening and panel discussion organized by the Auschwitz Institute for the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities (AIPG) and the IHRA, was held on 26 March 2021.
