Commemorated on 27 January, the day Auschwitz was liberated by Soviet forces in 1945, International Holocaust Remembrance Day invites us to learn about and reflect upon the lived experiences of the victims and survivors of the Holocaust. It draws attention to this history while reminding us of its enduring effects, and brings people together from all over the world to honor the victims and survivors.
This year, the IHRA has partnered with Chelsea Football Club – the first sports club in the world to adopt the IHRA working definition of antisemitism – to launch a campaign about why remembering the Holocaust is so important. Together, we are calling for individuals, organizations, and football clubs to post about their reasons for remembering the Holocaust, both personal and shared, using #WhyWeRemember.
You can also see some of the messages we have received on the IHRA’s Twitter. We would be more than glad to add your message to the campaign.
Commemorating 27 January helps ensure the victims and survivors of the Holocaust are never forgotten. This year, join us in sharing the reasons why you remember.
